Poem by Stephen Crane

* * *

There came whisperings in the winds:
”Good-bye! Good-bye!”
Little voices called in the darkness:
”Good-bye! Good-bye!”
Then I stretched forth my arms.
”No -- no -- ”
There came whisperings in the wind
”Good-bye! Good-bye!”
Little voices called in the darkness:
”Good-bye! Good-bye!”
