Lesbia Harford (Лесбия Харфорд)

* * *

A lady and I were walking
Where waters flow;
A lady and I were talking
Softly and slow.
This is what you were saying,
Lady of mine,
"I will be sad without him,
Yea, I will pine.
But he would never leave me
If he were free.
That's what my love in prison
Whispered to me."

Lesbia Harford's other poems:
  1. Though I had lost my love
  2. Suburban Dames
  3. My heart is a pomegranate full of sweet fancies
  4. Closing Time: Public Library
  5. Why does she put me to many indignities
