Eleanor Farjeon (Элинор Фарджон)

Solitary

He moved his fellow-men among
And changed with them some forms of speech.
His heart was separate from his tongue,
They would not hear his heart beseech.

Their needs were very like his own,
Quivering in bodies numb and dazed;
They smiled and talked and felt alone.--
Did not their hearts look on amazed?

Eleanor Farjeon's other poems:
  1. Sonnets. 12. I hear love answer: Since within the mesh
  2. The Maid's Idyll
  3. Three Miles to Penn
  4. Poplars at Night
  5. Never-Known
