Stephen Crane (Стивен Крейн)

* * *

Once there was a man --
Oh, so wise!
In all drink
He detected the bitter,
And in all touch
He found the sting.
At last he cried thus:
”There is nothing --
No life,
No joy,
No pain --
There is nothing save opinion,
And opinion be damned.”

Stephen Crane's other poems:
  1. Two or three angels
  2. If there is a witness to my little life
  3. The successful man has thrust himself
  4. If I should cast off this tattered coat
  5. Ay, workman, make me a dream
