Lines to ——— (No, no! thou hast broken the spell that entwin'd me) No, no! thou hast broken the spell that entwin'd me— The heart thou hast slighted, beats for thee no more; Once, fondly and truly this bosom inshrin'd thee; But now that vain dream of a moment is o'er. I lov'd thee with all young love's wild devotion, While thou wert as fickle as yon changing sea; But think not, returning, like calm to that ocean, The wanderer will ever be welcome to me. Oh! deem not again love's sweet lamp may be lighted— You may never relink the once-severed chain; When once thou hadst broken the vows that were plighted, My soul was too proud to receive them again. |
