Meditations on Marcus Aurelius

           ‘Wait in peace for extinction,
           or an altered state.’

I’m waiting in peace for extinction.
I’m taking your splendid advice.
But I would like to make one distinction;
I don’t mean to go through it twice.
So can you assure me that this is
the absolute, ultimate end?
The thought that you’re taking the piss is
a bit of a downer, my friend.
Suggesting that states can be altered
is really not helpful, you know.
I don’t like to feel that you faltered
when I’m perfectly happy to go.
